‘What Is It About

My Condition That

Makes Me Feel This Way?

I’m grateful to be with the people of @victorylife.church in Battle Creek, MI, today. Their pastor, @jsunnock has been one of the greatest influences in my life; a constant source of encouragement and wisdom.

Today, we unpacked Psalm 139, realizing that God doesn’t need permission to search our heart, but if we ask, he shows us what he sees.

Psalm 139:1-4 ‘You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. (2) You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. (3) You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. (4) Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.’ (NIV)

One of the most life-changing habits we can engage in is asking God why we feel the way we do and what’s in us that’s making us so vulnerable to the way things are.

Instead of only hoping something or someone else changes, let’s invite God in to transform us by showing us what’s in our heart that may be getting in the way of what he desires to do in us.

Psalm 139:23-24 ‘Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. (24) See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.’ (NIV)

Pray, ‘God, what is it about my condition that makes me feel this way? Show me what’s in me that may be getting in your way.’
Praying in this way consistently, we begin to hear God’s gentle voice, revealing to us what he sees in us.
